Hang 10!

Skim boarding at Lake Zoar.

Mason and daddy get in a little duel before s'mores.

We just had the most fabulous weekend with a group of homeschool friends at Kettletown State Park. The beauty of this campground is Lake Zoar, which just so happens to be the lake that mum mum's grandparents had their summer cottage on and where she spent her summers. Now we have a visual to go along with the stories. What a beautiful campground and lake it was and we will definitely go back again!

Grand Finale!

We ended our Great Park Pursuit today at the Peoples State Forest in Barkhamsted as semifinalist's in the challenge. Sad to say we did not win the finalist challenge but with the outstanding opportunites that the CT DEP and it's No Child Left Inside initiative provided to us week after week, who cares, we have truly reveled in the past 7 weeks and experienced one new adventure after another that we would not have had otherwise. This week; Mason tried his hand at casting.
His first handmade fly.
Woolly Bear Caterpillar anyone?

Harkness Memorial State Park

Park #6 in the Pursuit today was Harkness Memorial State Park which we just love! So even though we have visited this awesome park before, (family day in September is not to be missed, they even open the antique bowling alley for the kids), you still learn something new each time you visit, this time we discovered the pet dog cemetery!

As always the Great Park Pursuit folks have shined when it comes to the activities they offer the families, Mason spent quite a bit of time "playing golf" and the whole family played the "mosquito game" where we learned that mosquitos will feed not only off of blood but the juice of fruit too!

Rockcats (2) vs Altoona (10)

We joined over 500 other homeschoolers in New Britian tonight to watch the Rockcats, our first time seeing them and there is only one word I can use to describe our evening; HOT!

Connecticut Trails Day

Connecticut Trails Day is part of the annual National Trails Day. Did you know that Connecticut has the largest Trails Day celebration in the nation with over 130 events? The Connecticut Forest and Park Association partnered with the Great Park Pursuit and for "park" #5 we chose The Third Annual Tour de Trail. Mason rode his bike while mom & dad walked this 6 mile round trip, unbelievably early in the season, hot & humid day. For our troubles we all got a t-shirt!

My First Strawberry!

Mason's first strawberry out of his patch and according to him, it tasted like a strawberry that you can't get from the store!

Fire!

Fire is the heat and light energy released during a chemical reaction, in particular a combustion reaction. Depending on the substances alight, and any impurities within, the color of the flame and the fire intensity might vary.

But don't tell that to Mason and his friends Seth and Hailey, they think its just for roasting marshmallows!
