New this week...
So much for our lofty goal of putting up 2 gallons of maple syrup. Unfortunately the propane stove I bought with such high hopes at a tag sale last summer didn't make the cut as it took over 2 bottles of fuel and 26 hours of kitchen stove time to put forth the 1 1/2 quarts you see here, but we had fun and there is always next summer for which another sugaring plan is in the works!

I have never tried making my own maple syrup as my grandmother once did it indoors and it caused great damage to her walls--all the wallpaper peeled off and the walls were literally wet.
I love the idea of doing this at home. However for now we buy our pure maple syrup as I don't have an outdoor facility to do it and I fear the damage to my kitchen.
I'm glad your kitchen was not ruined in the process!!
Oh Christine, That was part of the plan the first year we did the maple syrup, to get the wallpaper off the walls and the paint off the cabinets! Needless to say it din't work and we had to resort to the old fashioned scrape and scrub method and new cabinet doors!
